Global Forum @ Casa de Campo: Trends in a World in Transformation The Future of Money

August 1 – 2, 2022. Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, La Romana, Dominican Republic

The Global Forum @ Casa de Campo is a conclave whose main objective is to reflect on global trends in the fields of economy, politics, the environment, technology, and culture. The event is organized by Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE).

It seeks to bring together the main authorities of the public and private, academic, diplomatic, and social sectors, to delve into current problems that concern the members of society, as well as to discuss the ideas and innovations that will have more impact on the world.

The multifaceted perspectives will allow participants to create a holistic understanding of the topic. Through the exchange between participants and speakers, we also seek to find possible innovative and creative solutions.

In 2002, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD, declared that money was destined to become digital. Certainly, the concept of money has been evolving to move away from the value of the physical object that mints it and concentrate on the value of the wealth that it represents. This phenomenon exploded after the global financial crisis of 2008 with the emergence of cryptocurrencies and the blockchain.

The digital revolution has been a great turning point in our timeline and the financial world could not help but be affected by this phenomenon. What remains to be answered is rather, to what extent it will be affected and what this new world of currencies will look like beyond paper and metal.

This entire process is, of course, affected by technological and geopolitical trends that will try to make the international financial system more inclusive, efficient, competitive, and unpredictable. The SARS-Cov-2 pandemic served as a catalyst to rethink the role of technology in the financial sector.

The immediate objective is clear: to use state-of-the-art technology in the creation of digital money and to continue moving all financial services and transactions to this same area.

And here central banks, commercial banks, and financial intermediaries converge in a kind of competition.

The Global Forum @ Casa de Campo, The Future of Money, will seek to deepen a dialogue that will clarify doubts about issues related to regulation, data protection, risks and volatility, stability of financial systems in general, and even the guarantees that They will take place in the midst of this transformative process to ensure that it is a tool for inclusion and not another obstacle that increases the levels of inequality in the world.

This event will take place at the Marina Riverside Center of Casa de Campo Resort and Villas, in the province of La Romana, Dominican Republic, on August 1 and 2, 2022.
